This conference aims to approach the theme from various viewpoints. The objectives of the conference include: 1) To show the various research topics and approaches in dealing with manga and manga-style works, and promote research by scholars, particularly from young researchers and students, 2) To provide a forum in English in order to accommodate the audience with no Japanese-language proficiency as well as to discuss the research agenda of manga with researchers in popular culture, 3) To make a network among major institutions related to Japanese Studies and publishing industries in the Philippines, particularly outside Metro Manila, and 4) To consequently contribute to the propagation of popular culture education in the Philippines.
