Unleash Your Potential as a Next-Gen Nihongo Leader: Applications Now Open!

The Japan Foundation, Manila is delighted to announce the launch of the Next-Gen Nihongo Leaders Program, an initiative aimed towards empowering aspiring and current Japanese language instructors in the Philippines.

The program fosters a proactive approach to learning theories and methods for educational practice, encourages the use of resources and tools, and incorporates generative AI. We aim to establish a professional community where like-minded individuals can unite in their commitment to support each other and achieve common goals, ultimately shaping the future of Nihongo education, particularly for Filipino learners. 

Target Participants: 

Highly motivated current or aspiring Japanese language teachers with the potential to become leaders among Nihongo educators in the Philippines. 

Number of Participants: 

6 to 10 participants

Program Structure: 

The program effectively utilizes both synchronous and asynchronous methods. For example, participants collect materials on the JF Standard asynchronously and respond to guided questions, followed by synchronous discussions.

Tuesdays and Thursdays starting 17 September 2024, 19:00 – 21:00

Online (via Zoom)

Module 1 Goals:  

This interactive and practical course aims to deepen teachers’ and aspiring teachers’ understanding of formative assessment and apply this knowledge in creating performance-based activities and formative assessment tools for classroom use. The created assessment tools will be compiled and shared with a broader audience.

Course Learning Outcomes (Teachers’ Can-dos): 
  • Create lesson plans that include logically sequenced activities with clear intentions. 
  • Understand various types of formative assessment and effectively incorporate them into lesson plans. 
  • Develop assessment tools/activities aligned with specific learning objectives. 
  • Reflect on personal experiences and apply these reflections for self-improvement and the cultivation of a growth mindset. 
  • Collaborate and learn with peers and mentors to achieve common goals. 
  • Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback to peers.
