“What is Marugoto?”
“Marugoto: Japanese Language & Culture” is a coursebook developed by the Japan Foundation based on the JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education and is now used worldwide for Japanese language teaching. This coursebook is designed with an emphasis on using Japanese to communicate in everyday situations, and on understanding and respecting other cultures.
Each lesson has topic-based specific learning goals, called the “Can-do” objectives, and lessons begin with audio input, which makes the coursebook slightly different from grammar-based textbooks. Culture is also introduced together with the language.
It may take a while to get used to this teaching method, but you will eventually be able to apply techniques where students will be able participate in fun and educational situation-based exercises. It is a very popular course, and deeply rewarding for teachers as well.
Doesn’t it sound exciting to teach Nihongo using this material?
