JAPAN FOR ME Essay Contest OPEN CALL

JFM is now accepting submissions of written articles and photo essays for the Japan For Me Essay Contest with the theme “Japanese Culture For Me”. 

This contest is open to all Filipinos residing in the Philippines or Japan. Writers and photographers are encouraged to tell the story of their experience with one aspect of Japanese culture of their choice. 4 winning entries will be chosen and their submissions will be published in SUKI, the official magazine of JFM, both on-line, in print, and social media.  A token of P3,000.00 will also be given.


WRITTEN ARTICLES

Eligibility and Restrictions

  1. All written articles must be in English
  2. Each article entry must only have one subject as a theme
  3. All parts of the entry (including photos) must be original, previously unpublished, and all rights owned by the applicant
  4. All written articles must include at least 4 photos (captions optional)
  5. Accompanying photos must be hi-res quality and optimized for printing
  6. Written articles must have a maximum of 1000 words
  7. There is no limit to the number of entries per participant
  8. Winning participants must allow JFM use of all submitted material (owners will be credited accordingly)

Criteria for Selection

  1. Technical writing proficiency (punctuation, spelling, capitalization, grammar)
  2. Clarity and creativity of content
  3. Unique insight and perspective
  4. Visual quality of accompanying photos
  5. Adherence to the theme

PHOTO ESSAYS

Eligibility and Restrictions

  1. Each photo essay entry must only have one subject as a theme
  2. All entries must be original, previously unpublished, and all rights owned by the applicant
  3. All photo essays must include a foreword and each image must have a caption
  4. Photos must be hi-res quality and optimized for printing
  5. Photo essays must have a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 images and should have clear sequencing
  6. There is no limit to the number of entries per participant
  7. Winning participants must allow JFM use of all submitted material (owners will be credited accordingly)

Criteria for Selection

  1. Communicative quality (submission as a whole should tell a story)
  2. Composition and visual impact
  3. Creativity and originality
  4. Adherence to the theme

Submission Guidelines

  1. Please send all entries to macosta@jfmo.org.ph
  2. All written articles must be in PDF format with photos attached separately
  3. All photo essays forewords and captions must be in PDF format with photos attached separately and named according to sequence
  4. Submission deadline is on 15 August 2022
  5. Winners will be notified via email on or before 26 August 2022

Prizes and Tokens

  1. The winners will be given P3,000.00 per chosen work
  2. JFM Merchandise
  3. Chosen entries will be published on SUKI both on-line, in print
  4. Photo Essays will also be featured on JFM social media
