52nd Nihongo Speech Contest

NIHONGOJIN no MINASAN, THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SOAR! The 52nd Nihongo Speech Contest is now open for entries!

The Japan Foundation, Manila is now accepting entries for the 52nd Nihongo Speech Contest, open to all Japanese Language Learners across the Philippines. Showcase your Nihongo skills and get the chance to win exciting prizes!

AIM OF THE CONTEST

The Nihongo Speech Contest primarily offers students and professionals a platform to showcase their ability to express themselves in Japanese; thus, promoting cultural exchange –  deeper understanding and better appreciation of the culture of Japan and the Philippines.

CONTEST BACKGROUND

The Japan Foundation, Manila started the Nihongo Speech Contest more than 50 years ago with contestants composed mostly of young people headed for Japan for further studies. In recent years, this group has expanded to include not only local professionals and those who have been employed or are going to Japan under working visas, but also Japanese culture aficionados and Filipinos of Japanese descent, among others.

This year, under the Nihongo Fiesta’s guiding value of いっしょに (isshoni), the designated theme of the Nihongo Speech Contest is set as「共創」(kyōsō) or「いっしょにつくる」(isshoni tsukuru) which translates to “Co-creation” in English. This theme highlights the value of creating together, encouraging participants to collaborate and blend diverse cultures and ideas to generate new perspectives.

All finalists will receive a certificate, a plaque, and special prize items from The Japan Foundation, Manila, while one lucky finalist will be selected to participate in an all-expense-paid week-long study tour in Japan. For more information regarding the contest, read the guidelines linked below.
