What is the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test
The JLPT is a test for non-native speakers of Japanese which evaluates and certifies their Japanese-language proficiency. The test is simultaneously conducted twice a year in Japan and in various locations overseas. Since the JLPT began in 1984, the cumulative number of examinees in Japan and overseas has reached 12,720,000 until the test in December 2020. Currently, it is the largest Japanese-language test in the world.
Test Dates
In 2022, the tests will be conducted on Sunday, July 3, and Sunday, December 4.
Outside Japan, however, the test may be held only in July or December in some cities. Please refer to the Official Worldwide JLPT website (www.jlpt.jp) for the test schedule in your city.
Notification of Test Results
All examinees will be issued a “Certificate of Result and Scores,” Successful examinees will also be issued a “Certificate of Japanese-Language Proficiency.” To examinees outside Japan, a “Certificate of Result and Scores” will be issued via the local host institutions. Examinees will receive their “Certificate of Result and Scores” for the July test in early October and in early March for the December test. Moreover, the test results will be available on the Internet for the July test in late August and in late January for the December test.
