2014 Eiga Sai Screening Schedules
The 2014 EigaSai (Japanese Film Festival) at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall was successfully concluded last weekend.
As a kick-off event of the July celebration of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month, the Japan Foundation, Manila presented the “Eiga Sai” in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, Shangri-La Plaza Mall and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
With the screening of sixteen Japanese contemporary films with a theme focused on the “family”, the Eiga Sai had an enthusiastic film audience of approximately 11,000 – it was indeed a record-breaking event!
The “audience choice award” of the film festival in Manila will probably go to the “2014 Festival de Cannes Jury Prize” award winning film “Like Father, Like Son” (Soshite chichini naru) by director Hirokazu Kore-eda,the globally acclaimed director of “Nobody Knows” (2004), “Still Walking” (2008) and “I Wish” (2011). Hemade the return with “Like Father, Like Son” to the big screen with another family – a family thrown into torment after a phone call from the hospital where the son was born…
The Eiga Sai 2014 now heads to Davao. The 5 selected films including “Like Father, Like Son” will be screened at Cinema 2, Abreeza Ayala from July 25 to July 27 and 12 films will be screened at the FDCP Cinematheque, Davao City from July 29 to August 3.
The screening of 4 films at the Cinema 4, Ayala Center Cebu will be from August 6 to 10 which is the culminating event of the 2014 “Eigai Sai” .
