Hiragana A1 Tutor Support Course | Registration Deadline: January 17 (Monday)

This is an online course where one can learn Hiragana* in about two months. Students will do online exercises and attend Group Online Lessons.
*Hiragana is one of the three types of scripts in the Japanese language.

Course-Can do:
–  Can read Hiragana : starting from single hiragana characters to words and sentences
– Can write Hiragana : by typing on a computer and writing manually

Modes of Tutor Support
– Group Online Lessons via Zoom on February 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26, and April 2, 2022 (Saturdays), from  9:00 to 10:00 AM (Manila time)
– Monitoring of the students’ learning progress; exchange of information among students / teachers through the Notice Board.

Assessment
– Completion of online exercises and online test
– Taking the reading test during the Group Online Lesson on March 26, 2022.

MARUGOTO Conversational Japanese for Everyone A2-1 Module 1 Online Course (January – May 2022)

This course is the continuation of the MARUGOTO Japanese for Beginners (Starter A1 Module 2) Online Course. 

Group online support will be provided to students who will be learning Japanese using the JF Japanese e-Learning Minato course, Marugoto A2-1 (Katsudoo & Rikai) Self-Study Course. While doing the self study lessons, students will be able to practice Japanese with their teacher and classmates through online sessions. Both the Katsudoo (activity) and Rikai (competence)  portions of a lesson will be taken up in each 2-hour session of the course.

Study Mode:
A) Group Online Sessions (via Zoom): 2 hours / lesson, once a week  (Tuesdays, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.)
B) Self-study using the JF e-Learning Minato (Computer, tablet or smartphone is required*)
C) Individual Online Sessions will be offered twice.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance, such as very basic personal and family information, seasons and weather, etc.
  2. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  3. Describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
  4. Broaden one’s view, understand the culture of Japan and other countries, and develop the competence in intercultural understanding by taking up Japanese culture distinct from that of the Philippines.

JFM will also conduct a qualifying Level Check Test for confirmation.

MARUGOTO Japanese for Beginners (Starter A1 Module 1) Online Course (January – April 2022)

This online course is for beginners who are interested in Japanese language and culture. Group online support will be provided to students who will be learning Japanese using the JF Japanese e-Learning Minato course, Marugoto A1-1 (Katsudoo & Rikai) Self-Study Course. The online sessions will be conducted via Zoom. 

There are 2 segments in this course, Katsudoo (activity) and Rikai (competence).

  • In the Katsudoo segment, communicative language activities are provided and used within the context of Japanese settings, such as introducing yourself, talking about your favorite food, etc. Students will be able to speak simple Japanese right away.
  • In the Rikai segment, language structure, such as Japanese script, vocabulary, grammar, etc. will be learned for those who want to learn about the Japanese Language systematically through various communicative activities.

    * These segments will be taken consecutively. Certificates will be issued separately.

Study Mode:
A) Group Online Sessions (via Zoom):
one hour/lesson, twice a week  (Tuesdays & Fridays, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.)

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type, such as how to order food and drinks.
  2. Introduce oneself and others, and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as one’s family and where one lives.
  3. Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly, and is prepared to help.
  4. Broaden one’s view, understand the culture of other countries, and develop the competence in intercultural understanding by taking up Japanese culture distinct from that of the Philippines.

【Important Notice】JFT-Basic:For those who plan to take a test at the test centers in Manila and Davao (PHJ01, 02 and 04)

From November onwards, only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to take the test.

Test-takers are requested to show their Vaccine Card (either digital or printed is acceptable) or
any certificate application provided by the local government at the test center.

If Test-takers fail to show their own vaccination card/certificate at the test center, or the name on the card/certificate does not match their ID, they will be counted Absent and the test fee will not be refunded.

For those who plan to take a test at the test center in Cebu (PHJ03):
At this time, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not, all applicants are allowed to take a test.
If there are any changes to the regulations, it will be announced on this page.

* Test Centers follow the Philippine government policy and operate based on them.

Kanji Hajimete A2 Tutor Support Course | Registration Deadline: September 20 (Monday)

This is an online course for those who are interested in or want to start learning  Kanji* in about one month. Students will do online exercises and attend Group Online Lessons. Students will learn the features of kanji characters and methods on how to study kanji by taking up 36 A2 level kanji characters.
*Kanji is one of the three types of scripts in the Japanese language.

Course-Can do:
– Distinguish the forms, understand the meanings, read, and write the 36 kanji characters introduced in this course
– Know the background of Japanese Kanji and the methods in learning kanji

Modes of Tutor Support
– Group Online Lessons via Zoom on October 16, 23, and November 6, 2021 (Saturdays), from  11:00 AM to 12:00 NN (Manila time)

This is an online course where one can learn Katakana* in about two months. Students will do online exercises and attend Group Online Lessons.
*Katakana is one of the three types of scripts in the Japanese language. It is used to write foreign or borrowed words and can be frequently seen in Manga.

Course-Can do:
– Can read Katakana: starting from single katakana characters to words and sentences. (Marugoto A1 level)
– Can write Katakana: by typing on a computer and writing manually.

Modes of Tutor Support
– Group Online Lessons via Zoom on October 9, 16, 23, November 6, 13, 20, 2021  (Saturdays) / 9:00 – 10:00 AM.

Irodori A1 Teaching Training Course

This online course is open to Filipino Nihongo teachers who have JLPT N1-N3 proficiency or its equivalent. Participants will learn the basics in teaching the Irodori A1: Japanese for Life in Japan Coursebook.
The course will be conducted in both English and Nihongo via Zoom.

Eligibility Filipino Nihongo Teachers who have JLPT N1-N3 proficiency or its equivalent*
