日本語:日本の文化・事情を教えるときの大切なヒント
Important things when teaching Japanese Culture
by Ms. Marie Dominique E. Licup (Miriam College High School)
Teaching Japanese culture is as important as teaching its grammar. Several use authentic teaching materials as examples to teach culture, but how effective is it? Aside from that, the comparison between two cultures often lead to lowering the view on one culture, but highly regarding the other. What should be done to prevent this, and the students’ stereotypical understanding of Japanese culture? In this session, discover how to avoid these misconceptions and the important points that make teaching Japanese culture more meaningful to the students.

19th Philippine Nihongo Teachers’ Forum
For this forum, we present to you the coursebook developed by Japan Foundation for adult learners, Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture.
The topics found in this coursebook set scenes for people with diverse cultural backgrounds to interact in Nihongo, providing audio input through natural conversations spoken in each scene. It also features Japanese culture through numerous photographs and illustrations which motivate the learner to find out more about Japan on their own.
By all means, we enjoin you to get to grips with Marugoto on May 17, where we have invited Senior Japanese Language Specialist of Japan Foundation Jakarta, Ms. Naomi Hatta, one of the authors of Marugoto. Send in your application forms now!
