This online course is for beginners who are interested in Japanese language and culture. Group online support will be provided to students who will be learning Japanese using the JF Japanese e-Learning Minato course, Marugoto A1-1 (Katsudoo & Rikai) Self-Study Course. The online sessions will be conducted via Zoom. 

There are 2 segments in this course, Katsudoo (activity) and Rikai (competence).

• In the Katsudoo segment, communicative language activities are provided and used within the context of Japanese settings, such as introducing yourself, talking about your favorite food, etc. Students will be able to speak simple Japanese right away.
• In the Rikai segment, language structure, such as Japanese script, vocabulary, grammar, etc. will be learned for those who want to learn about the Japanese Language systematically through various communicative activities.
  
  * These segments will be taken consecutively. Certificates will be issued separately.

Study Mode:
A) Group Online Sessions (via Zoom):
one hour/lesson, twice a week (Tuesdays & Fridays, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.)
B) Self-study using the JF e-Learning Minato (Computer, tablet or smartphone is required*)

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type, such as how to order food and drinks.
2. Introduce oneself and others, and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as one’s family and where one lives.
3. Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly, and is prepared to help.
4. Broaden one’s view, understand the culture of other countries, and develop the competence in intercultural understanding by taking up Japanese culture distinct from that of the Philippines.

This course is the continuation of the MARUGOTO Conversational Japanese for Everyone A2-1 Module 1 Online Course (January – May 2022).

Group online support will be provided to students who will be learning Japanese using the JF Japanese e-Learning Minato course, Marugoto A2-2 (Katsudoo & Rikai) Self-Study Course. While doing the self study lessons, students will be able to practice Japanese with their teacher and classmates through online sessions. Both the Katsudoo (activity) and Rikai (competence) portions of a lesson will be taken up in each 2-hour session of the course.

Study Mode:

1. Group Online Sessions (via Zoom): 2 hours / lesson, once a week (Tuesdays, 6:00 pm – 8:00 p.m.)
2. Self-study using the JF e-Learning Minato (Computer, tablet or smartphone is required*)
3. Individual Online Sessions will be offered twice.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Understand sentences and frequently used expressions regarding topics such as business, health, celebrations, etc.
2. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
3. Describe clearly and in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

*For those who have NOT taken the JFM “Marugoto A2-1 Module 1 Katsudoo & Rikai Course (January – May 2022)”, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

• Must have studied the basic sentence patterns (at least up to Lesson 15 of Minna no Nihongo / Genki textbooks)
• Must be able to read Hiragana and Katakana
• Must know simple Kanji like 外国語、南口、東京
• Must be familiar with dialogs about topics, like: giving simple directions, deciding about a meeting time/place, talking about one’s dream, asking for help / offering help in times of difficulty

Limited slots are available for Filipinos who are at least 17 years old and reside in the Philippines. Applicants should be beginner learners who have some knowledge in Nihongo, Hiragana & Katakana. Group online support will be provided to students who will be learning Japanese using the JF Japanese e-Learning Minato course, Marugoto A1-2 (Katsudoo & Rikai) Self-Study Course. While doing the self study lessons, students will be able to practice Japanese with their teacher and classmates through online sessions.
