CLOSING CEREMONY – May 21, 2019 Japanese-Language Training for Nurse and Certified Care Worker Candidates (Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement)

The Japan Foundation, Manila is pleased to announce that it has successfully conducted the “Preparatory Japanese-Language Training for Nurse and Certified Care Worker Candidates” under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA). The training started last November 8, 2018 at three (3) different venues; the Language Skills Institute of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Nihongo Center Foundation, Inc. (NCF, Manila), and the Personal Ability Development Foundation (PAD).  The training will soon come to an end on May 21. The current participants of the 11th batch who will complete the training consist of 41 nurse candidates and 269 certified care worker candidates, totaling 310 with 82 males and 228 females.

The candidates have obtained the basic knowledge and usage of Japanese language and deepened the understanding of the Japanese people, society and culture. They have also been trained for “autonomous learning” – they learned how to plan and review their study and acquired the habit of learning by themselves, so that they can continue the study beyond the program.

The candidates are to leave for Japan in the middle of June and will undergo another 6-month training of the language; then, they will be assigned to hospitals and nursing homes across the country.  Building up their practical experiences there, they will consequently take the national examination for nurse or certified care worker in Japan.

To mark and celebrate the occasion, a “Closing Ceremony” will be held at 9:00 am on 21 May (Tuesday) at the Tandang Sora Hall of the TESDA Women’s Center in Taguig City for the candidates at TESDA and PAD.  It will also be held for the candidates at NCF at 3:00 pm at the President Jose P. Laurel Hall of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Center in R. Papa St., Sampaloc, Manila.

Recruitment of Filipino Japanese-language Lecturers

 The Japan Foundation, Manila is looking for Filipino Japanese-language Lecturers to handle the Japanese-Language Course for JPEPA Nurse & Care Worker Candidates.

◎ Features of the course

Lecturers will be asked to handle a special intensive course of 7 months for nurse & care worker candidates who will work in Japan under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA). This course has been designed especially for the purpose of enabling the learners to use Japanese-language at their work places such as hospitals and care giving facilities, and also for them to learn how to adapt to a culture and society different from their own, namely Japan. Lecturers are expected to teach  only in Japanese (Direct Method) and to encourage learners to explore and discover new things during the lessons, instead of just providing grammatical rules and drills, thus helping the learners attain autonomous learning, whether at study or work, upon their arrival in Japan.

 

◎ We require lecturers to be:

■ Cooperative —— a lecturer who can work with Japanese and other Filipino lecturers as a team.

■ Flexible ————a lecturer who can respond accordingly to the learners’ actual needs and readiness      not just relying on his/her own experience.

■ Open-minded—– a lecturer who is capable of trying different ways to teach.

Call for Proposal for Film Study Students from Asia to Co-produce Short Films as Part of the 14-day Exchange Program: … and Action! Asia #05

The Japan Foundation Asia Center and Jakarta Institute of the Arts call for entries for the fifth edition of …and Action! Asia: Exchange Program for Students in Film Studies to be held on March 1-14, 2019 at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Twenty-one film students from Japan, Indonesia, and other Southeast Asian countries will be selected to co-produce documentary short films based upon a common theme and conditions and will be selecting three film proposals submitted by the participants for the actual production.

The Japan Foundation Asia Center, a unit within the Japan Foundation dedicated to conduct and support collaborative initiatives in Asia, launched …and Action! Asia in 2014 fiscal year with the aim of encouraging a new generation of filmmakers from Asia to achieve  a greater understanding of filmmaking in other countries, expand their networks in the region, and utilize their experience for their studies and future careers.

The Japan Foundation Accepts Grant Applications FY April 2019 – March 2020

Program Eligible Applicant Overview
Grant Program for Promotion of Cultural Collaboration Organization The program provides grants to partially cover expenses incurred by specialists/specialist organizations in the fields of arts and culture, sports, or intellectual exchange in Asia which aims to conduct collaborative projects such as co-productions, joint researches, and projects to disseminate the results of these collaborative projects. The goal of the grant is to foster an awareness of empathy and coexistence among the people of Asia, including Japan, through collaboration.

 Individual The program provides fellowship opportunities for specialists in Asia who are involved in activities such as conducting research, creative work, and building networks and platforms across a wide range of fields including arts and culture, sports, and intellectual exchange.

Call for Applications for Curatorial Workshop (October 2018)

Curatorial Development Program 2018

  1. Introduction

The Japan Foundation, Manila, the University of the Philippines Vargas Museum and Philippine Contemporary Art Network (PCAN) announce a call for applications for a Free Curatorial Workshop in October 2018. The program is aimed at enhancing expertise in curating contemporary art and related platforms. Selected participants are required to present an exhibition/art project proposal at the workshop and three participants will be asked to organize an exhibition/art project in 2019 at the Vargas Museum.

Next Generation:
Producing Performing Arts 2018 for Young Producers in the Contemporary Performing Arts

Are you an emerging producer/ programmer / presenter / curator / dramaturg/ critic who is looking for opportunities to see many different remarkable artistic works in and from Asia? Do you want to meet local key persons, understand various local contexts, get into professional, transnational networks and create your own working relationship for projects in the near future? Then this program is designed for you!

What is Next Generation: Producing Performing Arts?
It is a program for young generation, who work with artists and connect them as well as their works with audience and society in the field of contemporary performing arts in ASEAN countries and Japan.

A group of participants, maximum of ten (10) people, will visit three (3) festivals of contemporary performing arts, one in ASEAN countries, one outside Asia and one in Japan. In the third place to visit participants are expected to present their ideas and thoughts in any forms.

Qualifications/requirements for Participants
1.  Young producers, programmers, presenters, curators, dramaturgs and critics, who are active and working with commitment in the contemporary performing arts field with at least some assisting experiences, based in one of ASEAN countries (Southeast Asia) or Japan.

  1. Open-minded and highly motivated to be confronted with something unfamiliar and experimental as well as interested in transnational collaboration.
    3. Those who are capable to find or define their challenges by themselves
    4. Those who can participate throughout the whole process of the Program
    5. Those who can communicate about their activities and visions in English

Contents of the Program

  • The program consists of three trips with the same group to three different platforms/venues.
  • Each trip is programmed through visiting performances, meetings with artists and professionals, as well as discussions within group including orientation and feed-back meetings.
  • In the third trip there will be an opportunity to present or share any ideas or thoughts of the participants with audience.
  • All participants must be articulate and fluent in English.
  • In each trip one local coordinator and one Japan Foundation staff will accompany the group.

Benefits

The Japan Foundation Asia Center will provide the following:
1) International round-trip air ticket of discount economy class between participant’s residential city and the city of platforms to visit;
2) travel insurance;
3) accommodation;
4) per diem, and
5) tickets of shows to visit for the duration of the program.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Spirit of Budo: The History of Japan’s Martial Arts Exhibition
Galleries XXV and XXVI | National Museum

This traveling exhibition presents a brief history of Japanese martial arts – from battlefield combat techniques (Bujutsu) to popular sports or physical exercise tempering body and spirit (Budo), through originals and reproductions of historical weapons such as arrows, suits of armor, etc. as well as through materials and photo panels of popular sports and physical exercise such as Kendô, Judô and Sumô, among others. The exhibition will also feature free demonstrations and workshops on Martial Arts such as Karate, Judo, and Kendo. ADMISSION IS FREE.

Nihongo Fiesta 2018 [45th Nihongo Speech Contest (Saturday, 17 February) Students, Professionals and other Non-students]

The Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) in pursuit of its objective of promoting cultural exchange through Japanese Language Education in the Philippines, announces the Nihongo Speech Contest 2018 to be held on Saturday, 17 February (tentative – Shangri-La Plaza Mall, EDSA, Mandaluyong City).  The speech contest, now in its 45th year, is one of the major events of the 13th Nihongo Fiesta which will feature live performances, Nihongo Quiz Bee, film showing and a lot more activities on Japanese culture.

The Nihongo Speech Contest is an ideal platform for Filipino students and professionals to demonstrate their linguistic skills through articulating an original composition written by themselves on a theme of their choice. It continues to attract high caliber contestants from the country’s numerous language institutes, colleges/universities and other organizations offering Japanese language courses.

The Champion will take part in an all-expense-paid week-long study tour in Japan; all qualified contestants will receive consolation prizes.

The deadline for submission to the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) of the duly accomplished application form with a written copy and a recording of the speech (time limit – within 5 minutes) will be on Wednesday – 10 January 2018 for Davao/Mindanao applicants; and, Wednesday – 31 January 2018 for NCR / Luzon applicants.

Pre-screening in Davao is scheduled on Friday – 19 January 2018 (1:00 p.m., Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku (MKD Audio-Visual Room), Angliongto Ave., Lanang, Davao City; and, at the JFM on Saturday – 3 February 2018.
