“Sensei no Wa” is open to both experienced and neophyte Japanese-language teachers, and offers a platform for information exchange with one’s peers. It is for the further encouragement of Japanese Language Education and aims to support professional enrichment and network expansion through interactive learning.
Let`s challenge GUNDOKU* （群読・ぐんどく）together!
by Mr. Mamoru Morita (Japanese Language Education Adviser, The Japan Foundation, Manila)
* Gundoku : “chorus reading” in Japanese
I will introduce a special activity thatcould encourage students for collaborative participation in class. Have you tried using poems while teaching the Japanese language? You might have avoided using poems in your class until now, but many students can read and enjoy some famous Japanese poems even at a beginner’s level. Gundoku is one of the activities to read aloud in a group. We can make various patterns easily in reading aloud even if we choose the same poems. A harmony that is made through the Gundoku activity will produce a good effect in your class. Let us discuss how to apply Gundoku in your class. Let us experience “Gundoku” together and create an ambiance that is more conducive to learning.
